Elements are special properties that add special effects to attacks, giving the character an advantage against most enemies. Each character (with some exceptions) is assigned to and can use only one element.

In Sengoku BASARA 2, elemental weapon exist on certain weapons (usually on the 4th and 6th Weapons, and some characters have their 7th and 8th weapons with Elemental effect). In Sengoku BASARA 3 this remains the same, but the overall effect mostly has changed since now it has an Elemental Affinity, its mentioned as how strong the elemental effect that occurs on your elemental weapon attack (default affinity is only about 10%, and can be increased by using item and such). The elemental effect only appear based on the affinity percentage of your attack, it works like critical hit effect. unlike in Sengoku BASARA 2 when all attacks will have an elemental effect when you land a hit on your opponent with elemental weapons.

Prior to Sengoku BASARA 4, an element is applied on attacks by equipping a weapon with the said element. Certain skills are also elemental by default and the element is applied regardless of weapon, but only for that skill. All or most BASARA attacks are also elemental. Each effect have its own rank, the higher it is, the higher the affinity of your weapon.

There are currently 8 elements: lightning, fire, ice, wind, light, darkness, kan, and quake.

This element creates small energy (lightning) orbs when hitting the enemy, dealing extra damage as well as hitting other nearby enemies (slightly increasing attack reach and area of effect). Sparks or bolts usually appear on these weapons.

In Sengoku Basara 3 and 4, Lightning elemental have an effect to temporarily paralyzed the enemies and it does area damage. This effect does not occur on heroes (only its critical damage)

Characters who use this element:

Fire temporarily burns the enemies, dealing some extra continuous damage. Weapons with this element usually burn.

In Sengoku BASARA 3 and 4, Fire elemental have an effect to deals the same effect in the area (but with greater damage) depending on how great your elemental weapons affinity

Characters who use this element:

Ice element freezes enemies for around a second, making them incapable of moving. However, note that on some enemies, this effect is seemingly "reduced", and that characters on Sengoku Drive are unaffected. There is usually a cold air on the weapon.

In Sengoku BASARA 3 and 4, The effect of ice elemental is the same, but certain characters have a "slow effect" when they used their elemental weapon combined with their special moves (like Uesugi Kenshin)

Characters who use this element:

Wind element causes enemies to be open and blown towards the user. However, some units (most notably giants, cavalry and unique characters) are unaffected by this. The weapon's blade is usually surrounded by rising circular winds. Its weaknesess that it makes your opponent become aggresive once they were dragged to your position

Characters who use this element:

Light element makes it easier to break enemies' guard and deals critical damage. The weapons with this element usually glows.

In Sengoku BASARA 3 and 4, Light elemental guard break effect is reduced, as an exchange, it adds an additional effect of staggering and stun that depends on your elemental weapons affinity percentage. Noted that stun effect will occur less on Heroes unit.

Characters who use this element:

The Darkness element absorbs a small amount of life from the enemy killed by a dark elemental attack. Particular skills belonging to Oda Nobunaga, Akechi Mitsuhide and Oichi are an exception to this. Rather than gaining life upon killing the enemy, these skills drain life while the enemies are hit. Similarly, AI-controlled characters gain life whenever they hit enemies. The weapon is usually surrounded with a shadow aura.

In Sengoku BASARA 3 and 4, Darkness element will draw the enemy souls out not when they killed, but when they hit (it depends on their Elemental Affinity percentage). The other effect of this elemental is an instant kill of normal units when the effect occurs.

Characters who use this element:

Translates to a feeling or impression, there is currently only one character who uses this element. When activated, enemy soldiers will become sluggish and stop attacking, or they will attack both their allies and enemies indiscriminately.

Characters who use this element:

Some of quake's uses include splitting the earth for short range attacks, and shaking the ground to damage across a wider area.

Characters who use this element:

Though few, it is worth noting that there are characters who possess no elemental abilities to speak of.

Characters who do not use an element:
