Honganji Kennyo is a character who first appears in Sengoku Basara 2.
Description[]
Kennyo is depicted as a greedy and fat man. With his religion, he makes profit for himself, not caring about others.
He is also in a religious rivalry with Xavi and Itsuki. Kennyo has a very large love for gold, in Sengoku Basara 2, when you invade him there are many ways to steal a lot of gold from him.
In Sengoku Basara 2, Kennyo can also make your men turn on you, by giving your men a lot of gold this gives you a way to get some gold, by killing your men. He shares the same moveset as Shingen.
In Sengoku Basara 3, the resurrected Nobunaga Oda makes remarks about how Kennyo once hired the renowned Saika Ikki to join the fight against the rising Oda clan on his side. In the end, both Kennyo and Magoichi Saika's mentor lost their lives in the conflict.
In Sengoku Basara Samurai Kings, he was killed by Mitsuhide Akechi alone, while Nobunaga and the Oda and Akechi forces were on standby.

Honganji Kennyo
Honganji Kennyo (本願寺顕如, February 20, 1543 - December 27, 1592), or Kōsa, was a son of Ikko-Ikki Sect leader and inherited his father’s post of the Ishiyama Honganji (Honganji temple) head along with Kaga Province. He became the 11th head of the Sect.
Since the rise of Nobunaga, he joined the coalition of the Takeda, Uesugi, Azai and Mori against the Oda. But his allies were defeated one by one. Honganji temple was in the siege for ten years – the longest siege in Japanese history. In 1580, Kōsa surrendered under pressure from Imperial Court.
Reconstruction of the temple began 11 years later with the kind permission of Hideyoshi Toyotomi. Kōsa was 49 years old when he died in 1592.

- In Sengoku Basara 2 and it's expansion, Kennyo uses the theme, Get Mad/Boiling Point by Chamy.Ishi, as his personal theme. In Sengoku Basara Battle Heroes, he is given a new theme, also composed by Chamy.Ishi. The new theme is a lower pitched extended arrangement of his old theme.
- Historically, there was no family name of "Honganji", as Honganji refers to the real-life religious sect. The "Honganji" in Kennyo's name is most likely a title rather than a name.
