Matsu is a character first introduced in Sengoku Basara. She is the wife of Toshiie Maeda.

Description[]

Matsu is more responsible than her husband but still loves him wholeheartedly. She is harsher towards her nephew, Keiji Maeda, than Toshiie, but this is because she feels he has more potential than he displays. Due to her characteristics, fans call her the "ideal housewife." She possesses the unique ability to summon animals.

Role in Games[]

In Sengoku Basara and Sengoku Basara 2, Matsu's story revolves around finding various ingredients with which to cook a good meal for Toshiie and Keiji.

In Sengoku Basara 3, despite being a non-playable character, Matsu is somewhat important to the story of the game. After being kidnapped by Yoshiaki Mogami, she is held hostage by him, which forces Toshiie to ally himself with the Eastern Army. If the player defeats Mogami at Hasedo, she can be rescued.

Because she is held hostage, if the player is playing Keiji's blue path, Keiji is forced to make a decision over whether to continue to stay with Magoichi in the Western Army or to leave the woman that he loves. Should Keiji leave the Western Army, he will appeal to Yoshiaki for his aunt's safety and rescue her. Should he stay with Magoichi, Keiji and Toshiie will attack Ieyasu at Sekigahara while Magoichi rescues Matsu.

Her height is 5'7" (170 cm).

Weapon[]

In Sengoku Basara, she wields a katana with Kenshin Uesugi's moveset. In later titles, however, she wields a naginata.

Jump Attack (Air + SQUARE)

Horizontal slash with Matsus naginata.
Recovery is very low so when hitting enemies can be done multiple times.

Jump Finisher (Air + TRIANGLE)

Slams down her naginata and launches enemies in the air.
You can cancel this moves recovery with any actions.
Great combo starter.

Koryu Suiseidzuki "Comet Pierce" (SQUARE + Hold)

Ingame-Description: "A series of rapid stabs using the handle of the naginata. The number of stabs increases by tapping the SQUARE button. The number of attacks further increase by leveling up."

Can be cancelled using any other action except guarding.

Ike, Jiroumaru! "Go, Jiroumaru!" (TRIANGLE)

Ingame-Description: "Calls Jiroumaru, the boar, to lunge at your enemies. If you hold the TRIANGLE button, it'll follow you around after you attack. The boar grows by leveling up."

This move can be jump canceled even after summoning the boars.
Jiroumaru will leave the field when taunting, if damaged enough or using Matsu's Basara Attack.

Koryu Amakakeboshi "Soaring Star" (Direction + TRIANGLE)

Ingame-Description: "A dashing low slash followed by a sharp upwards cleave. Can be followed up by holding the TRIANGLE button. Extra attacks are available by leveling up."

After leveling up, additional button pressing enables consecutive attacks.

Tobe, Taromaru! "Fly, Taroumaru!" (R1)

Ingame-Description: "Call in Taroumaru, the hawk, and have him attack enemies in the sky. Can be performed midair. If you hold the R1 button, it'll follow you around after you attack. Increases the number of hawks by leveling up."

You can glide with the hawk.
Can be used in the air.
While Taroumaru is active all special cancels happen a little bit earlier.
Taroumaru will leave the field when taunting, if damaged enough or using Matsu's Basara Attack.

Tomero, Saburoumaru! "Halt Them, Saburoumaru!" (L1 + TRIANGLE)

Ingame-Description: "Call Saburoumaru, the mole, to stop the enemies movements. Can be performed midair. If you hold the TRIANGLE button, it'll follow you around after you attack. Increase the number of moles when level up."

Moles stop the movement from enemies for a short amount of time.
Saburoumaru will leave the field when taunting, if damaged enough or using Matsu's Basara Attack.
Can be canceled with a jump before she puts down the naginata. Can cancel into other moves at the end, too.

Revision Skill (L1 + SQUARE)

Ingame-Description: "Advances with summoned animals and gathers up enemies, then finishes with a dropping slash. Can be used midair."

You can use this move to glide with the hawk.

Ikare, Goroumaru! "Rage, Goroumaru!" (First R2)

Ingame-Description: "Call in Goroumaru, the bear, and have him attack enemies. Can ride on their back by holding the R2 button. The bear's health increases by leveling up."

The bear will automatically attack enemies when summoned and not riding on it.
Can be used midair to have a shorter animation and
Goroumaru will leave the field when taunting, if damaged enough or using Matsu's Basara Attack.

Koryu Ama no Seiun "Heavenly Nebula" (Second R2)

Ingame-Description: "Spin the naginata around you and march onwards, whilst creating a tornado. Continue by tapping the SQUARE button. If you have an animal summoned, each one will march along with you while doing a specific attack."

The number of consecutive attacks increases with leveling up.
Special Attacks for animals include:
- The Moles will line up with Matsu and repeatedly jump while she is moving towards the enemies.
- The Boar will attack all enemies around Matsu and launch them towards Matsu.
- The Hawk will spawn behind the enemies and fly towards Matsu to launch enemies towards Matsu.
Once the tornado is spawned one of your active animals will be resummoned to your side.

Advance Shiroumaru! (Third R2)

Ingame-Description: "Call Shiroumaru, the wolf, to attack enemies and draw them to the front. After you call them, they'll follow Matsu around and automaticall attack enemies."

Shiroumaru will leave the field when taunting, if damaged enough or using Matsu's Basara Attack.
Other moves are great starter to continue a combo with Advance Shiroumaru! (Third R2).
